Funding Boost for WRAP Cymru

29th June 2015

Resource efficiency and circular economy experts see Welsh Government core funding increase by 41 per cent

The Welsh Government today [29 June] announced grant funding of £9.496 million for WRAP Cymru for the period October 2015 to March 2018.  This represents a significant increase on current funding levels – equivalent Welsh Government funding for 2014-2015 was £2.7 million.

The funding covers WRAP Cymru’s core activity; it does not include its work with local authorities as part of the Welsh Government’s Collaborative Change Programme or the Resource Efficient Wales business and public sector client manager services delivered in partnership with the Carbon Trust.

Since its establishment in 2008, WRAP Cymru has gone from strength to strength. In 2014-2015 its core programmes delivered:
• Sales growth of £22 million
• £62 million of cost savings
• 107 new jobs
• Love Food Hate Waste food waste prevention training for 2,259

WRAP CEO Dr Liz Goodwin OBE said:

“We are delighted by the Welsh Government’s announcement of future funding for WRAP Cymru and look forward to continuing to work with the Natural Resources Minister on his green growth agenda.
“This funding increase is testament to the skills and experience of the WRAP Cymru team and the staff throughout WRAP who contribute to our work in Wales. It is a direct result of our outstanding track record of delivering behaviour change while offering excellent value for our funders. It is also indicative of the size of the Welsh Government’s ambition to create a truly circular economy.
“WRAP Cymru will have a central role in creating this circular economy, and is developing an ambitious programme of interventions to deliver it. I look forward to sharing more information about our plans at the WRAP Cymru Conference in Cardiff in October.”
